Cronyism- Partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. Dead Cat Bounce- Defections slow down and tenure of current employees actually increases. Defectors- Employees that resign or retire from an organization. Battlefield Promotions- Employees that are promoted within an organization. Democracy- A form of government in which power is held by " the people" under a free electoral system. Dilutive Resignations- All defectors above the median. Gerontocracy- A form of social organization in which an entity is ruled by older population. Hitchhikers- Active and passive candidates seeking employment. Inbreeding Doom Loop- A negative reinforcing loop that is perpetuated by battlefield promotions. Membership Mentality- Companies hire people they like and that are like them and their current employees. Meritocracy- A system in which the talented are chosen and moved ahead on the basis of their achievement. Natural De-Selection - When desirable talent de-selects and opts out of an organization. Oligarchy- A form of government where political power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royalty, wealth, family, military powers or occult spiritual hegemony. Open Objectivity- Seeking diverse and different points of view. Performance Disruption- The result of talent migration, it is the learning curve of an employee in a new job. Plutocracy- Rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth. Reinforcing Loop - When an action produces a result which then influences more of the same action and accelerates over time. Resume Discrimination- Occurs when resumes are rejected based on what the supervisor is familiar with. Many talent possibilities are excluded in the process. Slow Rabbits - The loser in the Natural Selection Process. Subjectively Closed Independence- Managers in micro-employment situations making hiring decisions that are modified or affected by personal views, experience or background. Talent Balance Sheet - The accounting of talent assets and liabilities. Talent Migration- Changes in personnel triggered by voluntary and involuntary turnover, internal "battlefield" promotions, lateral movement and the opening of new positions. Talent Recession - A period in which more talent is exiting your company than entering your company. It is a micro employment phenomenon whereby companies master the process of becoming less talented. Talent Valuation- Objectively comparing and contrasting individual talents within an organization. Vicious Cycle- A negative reinforcing loop. Virtuous Cycle - A positive reinforcing loop. Yo-Yo Hiring- Frantic hiring to fill gaps caused by the adverse chain reaction of layoffs. |
